Graduates can find employment in community services such as Health Monitoring, Personal Care, Environmental and Social Support and Information and Advocacy in aged care services such as Community Nursing, Home Help, Day Care Centres, Hostels, Nursing Homes and Acute Care and in Information Services.

 

This course is ideal for those persons wanting to work in residential or community care caring for the elderly or for aged care workers wanting to formalise their existing work skills.

 

Students who undertake training in this course gain the knowledge and skills required to work as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN) or Personal Care Assistant (PCA) in an aged care facility, as a community support worker, a home care assistant or a community care worker.

 

Certificate IV in Community Services is a practical orientated course, which involves acquisition of skills and knowledge to support and maintain independence and assistance for the frail, aged, disabled or ill.

 

These workers will carry out activities related to the maintenance of individual’s personal care and/or other activities of living.  Workers in this occupational group work primarily in residential facilities and community services under direct supervision within clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans.

 

Prerequisite requirements:

There are no prerequisite requirements, however students must require an ability to read, speak and understand English, as these skill are an integral part of the course learning process.  Prior to commencement, all participants in this course are required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test to ascertain if assistance is required.

 

Delivery Methods:

Note:

Flexible, Blended and Online students are required to have access to a PC with internet connection (broadband) and an email address.  In addition to this, online students are required to have a webcam and headphones.

 

Course Structure:

Although it is not compulsory, Blue Stone Medical recommends that students discuss their Hepatitis B status with their GP and provide a copy of their vaccination schedule for student record if applicable.

 

Blue Stone Medical also requires students going out on practical placement to have a current AFP police check.  If participants do not already have a police check in place, a course adviser can assist students to obtain a police check during the enrolment process.  Please note that a fee applies to all AFP applications.
